Course Overview


Research shows that metacognition plays a significant role in student learning and achievement. In this course, we will unpack the meaning of metacognition and explore a helpful metacognitive framework known as the Cycle of Self-Directed Learning. We will also discuss a wide range of metacognitive strategies that you can use to help students assess tasks, evaluate their readiness, plan how to accomplish tasks, monitor their performance, and reflect on their learning.

You will leave this course with a toolkit of over 30 metacognitive strategies that you can immediately implement in your classroom in order to promote deeper student thinking and learning!

Meet Your Instructor,

Dr. Tolu Noah!


Tolulope (Tolu) Noah, Ed.D. is an educator with over 18 years of experience in K-12, higher education, and professional development. Currently, she is a faculty developer at a university in California, where she partners with college professors to help them explore how they can effectively integrate content, pedagogy, and technology in order to enhance student learning. Previously, Tolu was a Senior Professional Learning Specialist at Apple, where she facilitated professional development for educators nationwide about how they could use iPads and MacBooks to transform teaching and learning. Tolu was also an associate professor in the teacher education program at Azusa Pacific University, and she was honored to receive the university-wide Teaching Excellence Faculty Award in 2019. Prior to transitioning to higher education, Tolu was a K-12 teacher in Los Angeles, specializing in teaching English Language Arts and social studies.
